Chapter 16 Summary – Born of Blood and Ash – The Portal, the Ancient, and the Primal’s Summoning

Sera tries to resume normality after the nightmare, but tension with Ash grows because of her refusal to talk. While they practice with the eather, Ash encourages her to trust herself more. Between jokes and intimate moments, the atmosphere softens until a disturbance alerts them: a portal bursts into their room. From it emerges a powerful being, tall, tattooed, and with kaleidoscopic eyes. His presence is overwhelming. Although Aydun explains that deals are vows that the world itself must respect, Sera feels the deep rejection of giving up Sotoria, even if it means avoiding war. Guided by a presentiment, Seraphena sleepwalks to where Ash, Nektas, Lailah, and Attes are. Surprise is widespread, but Sera insists that something dark is approaching. Attes appears wounded after a misunderstood joke with Ash. As they talk, the atmosphere turns tense when Sera senses the presence of death seconds before the kynakos attack. The creatures, enormous and deformed, emerge from the trees. The group unites to fight: Nektas summons fire, Lailah fires her shots, and Ash and Attes fight hand to hand.
