Bryce discovers that this place is the world from which the fae of Midgard originate. Although she tries to lie, Rhysand detects her falsehood. As she answers, Bryce realizes that the Asteri once ruled this world, known as the Daglan, but they were defeated fifteen thousand years ago. Bryce uses the Veritas orb to show images of the Asteri’s brutality, leaving her interrogators stunned. Sigrid, newly freed from the Astronomer’s tank, reveals her Alpha nature by constantly questioning and challenging them. As shadows creep in the cell, Hunt senses an ancient and powerful presence watching them. Though on the brink of death, Hunt swears to protect Bryce and resist until his last breath. Chapter 6 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – The Path of Danger and Darkness

Bryce moves through the tunnel, avoiding the beasts watching her from behind the bars. The door closes behind her, and the creatures awaken from their slumber. The star on her chest urges her forward through the endless tunnel. Exhausted, she stops and unknowingly falls asleep. Upon waking, she finds Nesta watching over her. Nesta offers her water and escorts her by order of her superiors. Although Bryce is wary, she follows Nesta, who mentions that the beasts were not a problem thanks to someone with wings who transported them. Bryce tries to escape using her light, but Nesta catches and subdues her. Too drained to fight, Bryce temporarily surrenders. Both continue their journey, knowing that the only way out is to move forward, while the star continues to guide Bryce toward an unknown destiny.

Chapter 7 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Encounter with Danger

Bryce and Nesta walk through the tunnel until they reach a narrow bridge over an abyss where something sinister lurks. As they advance, they hear claws and wings approaching. Nesta draws her sword, enveloped in silver flames that emit a strange power. Bryce runs toward the mouth of the tunnel, but bat-reptile hybrid creatures block her path. From the depths, a giant Middengard worm emerges, devouring the beasts and causing total chaos. Terrified, Bryce is saved by Nesta, who drags her back into the tunnel. Both watch as the creature devours everything in its path before sinking back into the depths. Nesta scolds Bryce for freezing and warns her that if they encounter danger again, she must either run or fight, not remain paralyzed by fear.

Bryce and Nesta continue their journey in silence until they come across a series of carvings etched into the tunnel walls. The images depict violence and suffering, warning of deadly traps. Bryce, knowledgeable in ancient art, recognizes the warning and prevents Nesta from crossing recklessly. They discover that the carvings tell the story of Silene, a noble fae linked to royalty. Nesta uses her power to disable the hidden traps, demonstrating that her magic is as lethal as it is beautiful. Bryce realizes that the tunnel was built by ancient fae and that their path is riddled with dangers. Both continue forward, aware that the only option is to keep moving. Nesta’s ancestral power unsettles Bryce, who begins to suspect that her fae lineage has a deeper connection to this world.

Leaving Hilde chained, Lidia reveals that she had planted evidence to incriminate the witch and manipulate the situation. Irithys’s loyalty and honor surprise Lidia, who begins to question her own methods. Despite her ruthless control, Lidia cannot help but feel a spark of admiration for the queen. As she returns to the hall of the mystics, Lidia struggles against the growing doubt within her, wondering whether her loyalty to the Asteri is justified or if it is time to question her path.

Lidia, the Hind, reveals her true identity as Daybright to Tharion, Flynn, Declan, and Ithan’s group. She explains that Ruhn, Hunt, and Baxian are being tortured in the Asteri’s dungeons and that she needs the group’s help to hack into the Eternal Palace’s security systems. Although the group is distrustful, Lidia pleads with them to trust her and gives them instructions to meet in two days at the port of Ionia. She also mentions the importance of rescuing Queen Irithys, who is imprisoned in the palace. Tension is palpable as everyone weighs the risks. Lidia makes it clear that time is running out and that if they do not act soon, the prisoners could die. Despite their doubts, Lidia’s desperation and the danger her friends face lead the group to seriously consider accepting the plan.

Chapter 11 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – The Mystery of the Carvings and the Truth of the River

Bryce and Nesta explored the cavern, admiring the carvings that depicted stories of fae, epic battles, and ancient kings. The images showed a prosperous kingdom with a palace atop the mountain, surrounded by islands and winged horses. However, beneath the splendor, the infernal scenes warned that death lurked even in Avallen. Bryce and Nesta reached a river that seemed impossible to cross, where Bryce discovered that her star shone brightly upon touching the water. The star guided her toward the river’s depths, and although Bryce tried to hide her exhaustion, Nesta pushed her to try her powers again. Feeling that something awaited them on the other side, Bryce decided to jump into the freezing water, followed by Nesta. As they struggled against the current, the star guided them to a safe shore on the other side. Azriel emerged from the shadows, revealing that he had been watching them the entire time, ready to intervene if necessary.

After crossing the river, Bryce, Nesta, and Azriel moved through tunnels filled with carvings depicting the history of an ancient world. Bryce began to notice the unsettling connection between the Starsword and Azriel’s dagger, which seemed to pulse in unison. As Bryce explored her bond with the light and the mystery of the carvings, she discovered that her wounds were not healing. Azriel sensed the unease caused by the proximity of the magical weapons. Soon, a terrifying sound emerged from the river: the Middengard worm had been drawn by Bryce’s blood, which she had intentionally left as bait to lure the creature. Nesta and Azriel confronted the beast with silver fire and deadly shadows while Bryce fled to fulfill her true objective. However, upon hearing the anguished cries of her companions, guilt forced her to return. Upon arrival, Bryce saw the chaos and realized that her plan had endangered everyone.

Chapter 13 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – The Power of the Mask and the Final Battle

The skeleton, under Nesta’s control, held the worm, allowing her to position herself for the final blow. As the bone creature immobilized the beast, Nesta leapt with a warrior’s precision and plunged Ataraxia into the worm’s head. The force of the impact shook the ground, and the worm lay still. Azriel, concerned, insisted that Nesta remove the mask before she lost control. Hearing the names of her loved ones, Nesta regained control and let the mask disappear. Azriel held her with relief, while Bryce watched in awe at the unleashed power of the warrior.

Chapter 14 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Betrayals and Dangerous Alliances

Ithan confronted the Viper Queen, seeking to secure the freedom of Sigrid and his allies. After long hours of waiting, Ithan was taken to the queen’s office, where she toyed with her words and offered him a dangerous alternative: a fight in her private arena. In exchange for his group’s freedom and Ketos’s, Ithan agreed to fight, despite not knowing whom he would face. The Viper Queen, cunning and manipulative, assured him that he would have a worthy opponent. Meanwhile, Lidia Cervos, trapped in the Asteri’s palace, planned her next move to save Ruhn and ensure Ophion’s survival. She used a secret phone to contact the Command, demanding that the remaining agents mobilize for a crucial plan. Bryce, on the other hand, continued her journey, feeling the connection to her star and the hidden truths she had yet to uncover. Tension grew as everyone moved toward an uncertain destiny, where betrayal and hope dangerously intertwined.

Chapter 15 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – The Truth about Nesta and Azriel’s Intentions

It took Bryce hours to recover from the cold left by the mask. Nesta, though also affected, stayed close to Azriel, who kept watch over Bryce. After a tense discussion, Bryce realized that Rhysand had planned every move to understand her purpose there. Azriel and Nesta revealed that they had caused the collapse to manipulate her and guide her toward her goal. Frustrated, Bryce suggested that they leave her behind, but Nesta reminded her that the star on her chest suggested otherwise. Azriel explained that Rhysand had foreseen her escape, which was why they had followed her. Bryce discovered that Nesta recognized her star because she had seen it before in a sinister place, leaving Bryce with more questions. As they moved forward, tensions grew between them as Bryce tried to understand the danger they faced.

Chapter 16 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Bryce’s Disappearance Worries Ruhn and Lidia

Exhausted and distressed, Ruhn connected mentally with Lidia to share the troubling news: Bryce had not arrived at the Abyss. The Prince of the Pit had confirmed her absence. Lidia, though worried, assured him that Bryce was still alive, as Rigelus had a thousand mystics searching for her, which showed his fear. Although Ruhn tried to remain skeptical, he felt a spark of hope. Lidia explained that if Rigelus was so obsessed with finding her, it was because he feared what Bryce might discover. The uncertainty about Bryce’s whereabouts and the reason behind Rigelus’s interest left Ruhn uneasy. Despite his pain and resentment toward Lidia, he understood that he had to continue trusting her to save Bryce. Lidia’s warning about the mystics’ search made it clear that time was running out and that Bryce might be in more danger than they imagined.

Chapter 17 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Bryce’s Gamble to Cross the Precipice

Azriel, Nesta, and Bryce arrived at a precipice too wide to cross by flying or jumping. Frustrated, Bryce asked if Azriel’s shadows or power could form a bridge, but he explained that his magic did not work that way. Bryce suggested that Azriel transfer part of his power to her to amplify her magic and transport them to the other side. Azriel hesitated, fearing that Bryce would abandon them, but she assured him she would not. After a tense exchange, Azriel agreed and channeled his power into Bryce’s star. The energy burned within her, and although it was a dangerous gamble, Bryce managed to transport them to the other side of the precipice. The effort left her exhausted, but seeing the expressions of Azriel and Nesta, she perceived a glimmer of respect. However, the danger was far from over, and Bryce sensed that what awaited them at the end would be far worse.

Chapter 18 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – The Discovery of the Cauldron and Midgard’s Secrets

After crossing, they found carvings depicting the story of the Cauldron, which gave and took life. Azriel explained that it was a sacred relic to the Illyrians, while Nesta revealed that the Cauldron had turned her into a high fae. Bryce connected this information to her own transformed tattoo. As they advanced, Bryce shared Midgard’s beliefs, including the gods and the fate of souls. When she mentioned the Bone Quarter and her deal with the Underking to save Danika’s soul, concern was evident in Nesta and Azriel. Bryce wondered what would happen if she died in this world. Further ahead, they found a gigantic door with an eight-pointed star engraved on it. Bryce placed her hand on it, causing the door to open, revealing an ancient and watchful darkness that engulfed them as they ventured inside.

Chapter 19 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – The Harpy’s Return

Lidia felt a chill as she heard Pollux mention that they were “fixing” the Harpy, a personal project of Rigelus that was about to bear fruit. Pollux assured her that in a day or two, the Harpy would be back. As Pollux’s pressure intensified in the shower, Lidia struggled to maintain her composure. She knew that if the Harpy woke and spoke, all her plans would be ruined. Pollux, unaware of Lidia’s distress, continued to speak with absolute dominance. Subjugated and fearful, Lidia could not help but think about what could happen if the truth came to light. The possibility of the Harpy revealing who had killed her put everything Lidia had built at risk. Pollux, with a gesture of power, reminded her that the Harpy’s awakening was imminent, leaving Lidia trapped in growing fear she could no longer control.

The Viper Queen’s declaration fell like a bomb in the room. Tharion, Ithan, and Sigrid froze, especially Ithan, whose anguish was palpable. The Viper Queen offered him freedom if he fought against Sigrid, but Ithan refused outright. However, the Viper Queen made it clear that if they did not comply, their friends would be doomed. Sigrid, with a firm and determined look, accepted the fight, defying Ithan’s desperation. Tharion was overwhelmed by guilt, knowing that his mistakes had led his friends to this situation. The Viper Queen, with her serpentine smile, enjoyed the spectacle as she set the stage for a fight that could change everyone’s fate. The tension in the room was suffocating, and every movement Sigrid made reflected her determination, while Ithan struggled with the anguish of having to harm someone he wanted to protect.

After learning the secrets of the Daglan, Theia opened a portal that allowed the Asteri to enter and subjugate that world. Bryce discovered that Theia had hidden the Dread Trove: the Mask, the Harp, the Crown, and the Horn, hoping they would protect her people. However, her alliance with Pelias and her thirst for power blinded her, leading to the destruction of human civilizations. Bryce also learned the story of Helena and Silene, who fled while the wolves, sent by the Asteri, pursued them. Theia’s sacrifice allowed her daughters to escape, but guilt and betrayal were forever etched into history. Filled with fury and disillusionment, Bryce realized that her heritage was stained with blood and irreparable mistakes, and that she now had to confront that legacy.

Chapter 22 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Torture and Betrayal in the Darkness

Hunt, Ruhn, and Baxian lay chained and weakened in the prison while Rigelus, Pollux, and the Hawk tortured them. Ruhn had lost a hand, and Hunt, suffering from the pain of the gorsian manacles, was forced to give his lightning to Rigelus, who trapped it in a crystal for future plans. Rigelus threatened to kill one of his friends if Hunt did not comply, but the Umbra Mortis still resisted. As Rigelus ascended the stairs, he promised that Hunt would learn the consequences of his rebellion. The scene left the prisoners in unbearable agony, with Ruhn consumed by pain and Hunt drowning in guilt. Baxian, despite his weakness, showed loyalty toward Hunt, making his suffering even more intense. Despair filled the cell as Rigelus plotted an even worse fate for them.

Chapter 23 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Lidia and the Silent Sacrifice

Lidia arrived at the cell and saw the deplorable state of Hunt, Ruhn, and Baxian. Seeing Ruhn’s amputated hand, she felt a silent rage. She knew it was her time to act. She used a vial of lightpristine to heal Hunt and Baxian’s wings, pretending it was to prolong their torment. Then, she took out a syringe to ensure their wings would regenerate. In front of Pollux and the Hawk, Lidia acted coldly to avoid raising suspicion. When she was finally alone, she untied Ruhn and tried to communicate with him mentally, but Ruhn had blocked his thoughts, hurt by her betrayal. Although Ruhn did not respond, Lidia explained that she had found a way to get them out, but they needed to be ready for what was coming. Time was running out, and Lidia knew that the only way to save them was to take a mortal risk, facing her own destiny.

Chapter 24 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – The Awakening of an Ancient Evil

Bryce, Nesta, and Azriel arrived at the secret chamber beneath the Prison, where they discovered a crystal sarcophagus containing a dormant Asteri, Vesperus. Desperate for answers to defeat Rigelus, Bryce broke the seal and released the creature despite Azriel and Nesta’s warnings. Vesperus awoke, arrogant and hungry for power, revealing her identity as an ancient Asteri who had ruled before Theia. Bryce tried to interrogate her, but the Asteri offered only cryptic answers and warnings about the destruction of the world if the Cauldron was destroyed. Vesperus confirmed that the Asteri had planted destruction switches in many worlds, including Midgard. Bryce realized that releasing Vesperus had been a fatal mistake, but now she needed to find a way to control or destroy her before she regained power.

Chapter 25 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Lidia’s Final Deception and Irithys’s Rebellion

Determined to save the prisoners, Lidia freed the Pixie Queen, Irithys, offering her a deal to divert Rigelus’s attention. Hilde, the witch who controlled Irithys’s seal, was forced to remove her mark before being betrayed and killed by the pixie. Now free, Irithys prepared to execute Lidia’s plan: create a massive distraction so the prisoners could escape. To make her deception believable, Lidia asked Irithys to burn her enough to simulate a confrontation. Despite the pain she knew was coming, Lidia accepted the sacrifice to make her plan work. Meanwhile, elsewhere, Tharion, Ithan, and the pixies escaped after Sigrid’s death, while fire consumed the Meat Market, leaving behind a trail of destruction that heralded the beginning of an unstoppable rebellion.

Chapter 26 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Ithan’s Guilt and the Escape to Pangera

Ithan was consumed by guilt after killing Sigrid, feeling unworthy of living. As they traveled to the dock in Ionia to board the ship that would take them to Pangera, his thoughts tormented him. Upon arrival, a small boat awaited them. Flynn, Declan, and the pixies boarded, but Ithan stopped at the edge of the dock, staring at the horizon. His guilt devoured him. Tharion tried to persuade him, but Ithan decided to return to Crescent City to correct his mistakes. In his wolf form, he ran swiftly back, leaving his friends behind. Tharion, feeling responsible for Ithan’s tragedy, boarded the boat with a heart full of remorse. As they sailed toward the open sea, Tharion couldn’t help but wonder if he would ever see Valbara again or if he even deserved to return. The dawn bathed the sea in golden hues, reflecting the uncertainty of the future.

Chapter 27 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Bryce and the Fall of Vesperus

Bryce faced Vesperus with the Starsword and Truth-Teller in her hands, feeling the power vibrating between both weapons. As Azriel and Nesta distracted the Asteri with magical attacks, Bryce took the opportunity to drive both weapons into her chest. Time seemed to stop, just as it had when she killed Micah. However, Vesperus absorbed part of Azriel’s power and managed to rip both weapons from herself, smiling malevolently. Before she could counterattack, Nesta delivered a precise blow with Ataraxia and decapitated the Asteri. The body fell, and Nesta continued striking, ensuring that she was truly dead. Blue and silver light enveloped the place as Vesperus dissolved into ashes. Bryce regretted not being able to extract more information before her death, as Vesperus was the key to understanding how to eliminate the Asteri. But the threat had been eliminated, at least for now.

Chapter 28 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Ithan Returns to Crescent City

Ithan returned to Crescent City after running nonstop from the dock in Ionia. His thoughts were filled with guilt and pain over Sigrid’s death. Upon arriving, he avoided the main roads and headed toward the Black Dock, where the mist enveloped the Bone Quarter. There, he found the entrance to the House of Flame and Shadow, a dark building with ancient markings and a burning skull engraved on the door. When he touched the skull, the door opened silently and swallowed him into the darkness. Without hesitation, he descended the endless stairs into the abyss. He knew there was no turning back. At the bottom, he collided with a metal door, and as it opened, a golden light illuminated the place. There, in the middle of the darkness, Jesiba Roga greeted him with her characteristic tone of boredom, noting that he had arrived just in time.

Chapter 29 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Bryce and the Autumn King’s Imprisonment

Bryce woke up in her father’s study, the Autumn King, who had captured her and placed gorsian manacles on her wrists to suppress her power. Bryce, ever sarcastic, tried to negotiate her freedom, but the Autumn King had other plans. He offered her information in exchange for answers, and Bryce discovered that she had been in another world for five days while Hunt and Ruhn remained imprisoned. During dinner, they exchanged questions and answers, although Bryce avoided revealing crucial information. The Autumn King was obsessed with Truth-Teller and the power Bryce had acquired in that other world. Although she contained her fear and concern for her loved ones, Bryce vowed that she would find a way to escape and rescue Hunt and Ruhn. While her father kept her captive, she planned her next move to change the course of the battle.

Chapter 30 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Aidas’ Plan and the True Threat

Hunt remained chained and weakened in the Asteri’s dungeons, his wings painfully regrowing thanks to Lidia’s potion. In his mind, he heard the voice of Aidas, the Prince of the Chasm, who communicated to warn him about Rigelus’s plans. Aidas revealed that Rigelus had extracted his lightning to try to resurrect the dead and create unstoppable armies. The news filled Hunt with guilt and despair, knowing that his lightning was now a deadly tool in the enemy’s hands. Aidas warned him that Ruhn would be the one chosen to die if Rigelus did not get what he wanted. Hunt begged Aidas to protect Bryce and deliver one last message to her. As guilt consumed him, Hunt clung to the hope that Bryce would find a way to return and save them before it was too late.

Chapter 31 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Ithan and the Search for a Necromancer

Ithan arrived at the House of Flame and Shadow accompanied by Jesiba Roga, who led him through a corridor filled with Vanir creatures, draki, vampires, and daemonaki. Upon reaching the onyx bar, Jesiba had him sit and offered him a magical drink called “smoky.” Ithan, anguished, confessed that he needed a necromancer, but not for his brother Connor—this time, it was for someone else. Jesiba, initially incredulous and sarcastic, changed her tone when Ithan mentioned that he wanted to revive a lost Fendyr heiress. The seriousness in his voice made Jesiba understand the gravity of the matter. Ithan was determined to correct the mistake that had haunted him since Sigrid’s death, knowing that only powerful necromancy could bring her back. With guilt weighing heavily on him, Ithan pleaded for Jesiba’s help, aware that this was his last attempt to make amends for the damage he had caused.

Chapter 32 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Bryce and the Autumn King’s Game

Bryce remained trapped in the Autumn King’s villa, where he kept her prisoner in search of answers. During a tense conversation, he revealed his obsession with studying light and discovering its potential to strengthen the fae’s power. Bryce, ever mocking, questioned his true intentions, suspecting that he wanted to use that knowledge to challenge the Asteri. Despite her attempts to extract information, the Autumn King remained tight-lipped, reinforcing his position of control. Bryce, still wearing the gorsian manacles that blocked her power, engaged in a dangerous verbal game to buy time and find an opportunity to escape. Though he challenged her with his cold demeanor, Bryce sensed that the King’s interest went beyond mere scientific curiosity. His calculating gaze and obsession with the Starsword and Truth-Teller confirmed that he was planning something much bigger and more dangerous.

Chapter 33 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Lidia’s Betrayal and the Escape of Ruhn and Hunt

Hunt, Ruhn, and Baxian were taken from their cell to be brought before Rigelus. However, just as they were about to face their fate, Lidia revealed her true loyalty. She shot the Hawk and two necrowolves before freeing the prisoners. She instructed them to run to a waiting car while she planned to distract Mordoc and his men. Hunt, Ruhn, and Baxian followed her instructions, though Ruhn was gravely injured and could barely stand. As they escaped the palace, Lidia guided them to a jeep that took them through the city and beyond, toward the coast. While the city burned due to coordinated explosions by Irithys, the Fire Pixie Queen, Lidia managed to evade the imperial forces. Though they escaped the city, Ruhn was devastated when he realized that Lidia did not plan to join them—she would stay behind to distract Mordoc.

Chapter 34 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Lidia’s Sacrifice and the Fall from the Ravine

Lidia led Hunt, Baxian, and Ruhn to the edge of the ravine, where she ordered them to fly to the submarine waiting for them in the sea. Though Hunt and Baxian were weakened, they managed to carry Ruhn into the air, leaving Lidia behind to face Mordoc and his necrowolves alone. Lidia ran to the mountaintop, pursued by the wolves, but upon reaching the edge of the ravine, she found herself cornered. Mordoc and his men surrounded her, and though she knew they would take her alive for the Asteri to torture, Lidia decided to take control of her fate. She jumped from the cliff, preferring a quick death over falling into her enemies’ hands. However, before she hit the water, a bullet fired by Mordoc pierced her chest, taking her life. Her sacrifice gave Ruhn, Hunt, and Baxian a chance to escape.

Chapter 35 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – Ruhn, Hunt, and Baxian’s Escape to the Submarine

Hunt and Baxian, exhausted and wounded, carried Ruhn through the air to the Warrior of the Depths, where Tharion anxiously awaited them. Though they reached the submarine, Ruhn was devastated by Lidia’s loss. Tharion, seeing the severity of Ruhn’s injuries and the condition of the others, realized that the situation was critical. Ruhn, desperate, begged Tharion to return to save Lidia, but the mer knew it was impossible. Despite Ruhn’s anguish, Tharion dove into the water, willing to try, but in his heart, he knew there was no hope. As the submarine descended to take them away from danger, Ruhn looked toward the coast with tears in his eyes, aware that he had lost the woman who had sacrificed everything for him. Lidia’s sacrifice had ensured their freedom, but the pain of her loss would be an eternal burden.

After listening to him, Jesiba agreed to help him in exchange for his work as her assistant, cataloging relics. Ithan accepted, knowing it was his only chance to obtain the help of a trustworthy necromancer. Roga assured him that Sigrid’s body would be preserved while he fulfilled his part of the deal. During his work, Ithan struggled against rebellious magical books that tried to escape. Roga mentioned that these books came from the legendary Library of Parthos, safeguarding human knowledge before the Asteri’s arrival. Ithan, shocked, discovered that Jesiba was actually an ancient priestess of Parthos, cursed by Apollion to live eternally until she revealed the true power of the books. She vowed to protect that knowledge until a safe world for them emerged.

Tharion, haunted by his role in Sigrid Fendyr’s death and the loss of Ariadne, felt like a pariah among his people. Hunt asked him to try to contact the Ocean Queen for answers. Surprisingly, Sendes, the submarine’s captain, reported that the Queen had agreed to meet with them the next day. The shock was palpable when Bryce introduced herself as Bryce Danaan, Queen of the Valbaran Fae, claiming her authority. Hunt, on the verge of tears, backed her by calling her his mate. Upon entering, everyone fell silent and stepped aside to let Jesiba pass as she advanced firmly to the center. Ithan, weapon in hand, saw the Astronomer point at him, accusing him of being a thief. The pixies, initially outraged upon learning that their queen was missing, accepted the mission with determination. Bryce reminded them that Lehabah, a single pixie, had made a difference by defeating Micah, which convinced Sasa, Rithi, and Malana to fight alongside Irithys when the time came. Flynn tried to protect Sathia, but their father had already accepted the deal. Bryce’s fury grew when Morven suggested that Sathia choose between the Killer Twins. Tension rose when Bryce invoked her starlight to protect her mind and those of others. In the end, Bryce challenged Morven and demanded that Sathia remain under Flynn’s protection. After hours of effort, she managed to bring her back to life, but the young woman did not return as before. Sigrid’s eyes glowed with an acidic green hue, a reflection of her transformation into a reaper under the control of the Underking. Ithan was devastated when he heard Sigrid’s voice blaming him for her fate. The Underking appeared, claiming his right over Sigrid, leaving Ithan and Hypaxia powerless. As the team investigated, Bryce felt an urgent need to explore the Cave of the Princes. That night, Bryce and Hunt shared an intimate moment in their room. Their connection was so deep that their powers fused, making them feel transformed and connected on a higher level. They shared their personal stories and eventually shook hands, accepting their forced marriage. Sathia admitted that although this was not the destiny she had imagined, it was better than the cruel fates that had been prepared for her. Tharion, with humor and resignation, accepted that he had made many mistakes and hoped this marriage would offer him a way to redeem himself. Morven appeared beside her, full of disdain, accusing her of being a traitor. Lidia responded with cold indifference, reminding him of how he had abandoned his own son for power. Morven, furious, insinuated that Lidia might betray her new allies if a better offer came along. But Lidia made it clear that her loyalty was unwavering, and her subtle but powerful threat warned that if Morven did not follow the right path, it would mean Avallen’s doom. Sathia, though hesitant, chose to accompany them, preferring to face the cave’s terrors rather than remain in the castle surrounded by manipulative fae. The dark mist tangled around their feet, hiding invisible threats. As they advanced, they discovered carvings of ancient hunts where fae drowned Theia’s pegasi. Inside the cave, Bryce, Hunt, and their group explored the carvings while the shadows of malevolent spirits lurked from the mist. Sathia questioned Bryce’s indifference toward the fae despite wielding their most sacred artifacts. Bryce made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with them after their cowardice during the invasion of Crescent City. However, Baxian reminded Bryce of Danika’s lessons, suggesting that perhaps she could be the leader the fae needed. Bryce, reluctant, did not entirely dismiss the possibility. But before they could continue debating, a voice echoed from the shadows. Bryce and Hunt debated whether to surrender or fight, while Bryce’s starlight burned intensely against the kings’ dark magic. After the tense escape, Bryce led the group through a hidden tunnel that took them to an ancient chamber. Hunt’s lightning illuminated the black rock walls, where they found a sarcophagus carved in white marble, guarded by a statue of Pelias. Bryce recognized that the chamber had been built by Helena, not Pelias. Bryce activated her starlight, revealing a river of energy flowing toward the sarcophagus. With effort, she slid the lid and discovered a secret staircase descending to a deeper chamber. The group went down, where they found water seeping through the black salt—a powerful medium to communicate with the Abyss. Bryce and Hunt drank together from the bowl, allowing their souls to travel to the Abyss to seek answers on how to defeat the Asteri.

Thanatos hinted that Hunt was a descendant of the Princes of the Abyss, explaining why his power could never be fully contained. Bryce, ever protective, demanded answers. Aidas explained that Helena had used the black salt to communicate with them and seek a way to defeat the Asteri. Hunt, although bewildered, stood firm beside Bryce as the secrets of his origins and Midgard’s past began to unfold.

Aidas revealed that Helena had built the caves not only to communicate with the Abyss but also to leave a legacy that could be discovered by a worthy successor. Bryce realized that her own starlight, inherited from Helena, had led her to that place to continue the fight against the Asteri. Apollion explained that the Asteri had used the Horn to seal the Northern Rift, preventing the Abyss from returning. However, Helena had left clues so that one day, someone like Bryce could open that portal and bring reinforcements from the Abyss. Although Bryce felt the weight of history and expectations, she knew she had to move forward, trusting that she and Hunt, together, could change Midgard’s fate.

Ruhn assured her that she never had to apologize and that they would never do anything she didn’t want. Lidia admitted that she wanted to feel Ruhn’s touch in reality, not just in dreams. Just as they were about to give in to their desire, a threatening hiss interrupted them, forcing them to separate and continue their mission. Bryce revealed to Aidas that she knew how Theia had divided her power to protect her daughters. Aidas confirmed that Theia had used the Harp to split her magic into three parts: one for Silene, another for Helena, and the last for herself. Bryce deduced that by opening the portal with the Starsword and the dagger, she had reunited Theia’s latent power, causing the weapons to attempt to merge. Aidas explained that Theia had hidden the final third of her power somewhere, fearing the Asteri would use it. Bryce realized that her magic, now combined with her starlight, was more powerful. Aidas warned that if Bryce managed to find that last fragment, Theia’s full power could be unleashed, giving the weapons the ability to open the portal to nowhere—but he cautioned about the danger involved. Bryce accepted that her destiny was to complete Theia’s legacy and face the Asteri’s power.

Chapter 62 Summary – House of Flame and Shadow – The Autumn King’s Betrayal and Bryce’s Decision

The battle intensified as Bryce fought the Autumn King and Morven, channeling her starlight. The twins tried to subdue her mentally, but Bryce incinerated them from within. However, Morven struck her down with shadows just as Bryce was about to end the fight. With her starlight burning inside her, Bryce teleported beside the Autumn King and, with an explosion of power, destroyed his hand. Bryce realized that Theia’s power was still hidden in Avallen’s ley lines. By inserting the Starsword and Truth-Teller into the eight-pointed star on the ground, she unleashed the magic contained for millennia. Avallen was reborn with pastures, flowers, and resplendent seas, restoring its natural beauty. While Bryce grappled with Theia’s power and the wound in her soul, Hunt confessed his fear of seeing her fall into the hands of the Asteri. Both acknowledged the need to face the enemy to prevent future generations from suffering the same fate. Bryce suggested bringing allies to Avallen, as the mist protected the place from the Asteri, and Flynn mentioned the Warrior of the Depths. However, Lidia pointed out the difficulty of navigating the mist. Bryce, now Queen of Avallen, controlled the mist and suggested bringing in refugees. Declan reported that the Asteri had attacked all of Ophion’s bases and launched sulfur missiles at the Meadows of Asphodel, killing thousands. When Hunt and Bryce landed on the beach with their friends, Ithan was speechless. Bryce, now Queen of Avallen, had complete control over the place. Ithan requested Sofie Renast’s body, but Ruhn informed him that the castle had collapsed and her body was buried. Desperate, Ithan confessed that he had ruined his mission by trying to save Sigrid, who was now a reaper. Ithan struggled with his desire to stay and save Sigrid but understood that the priority was the antidote. Hypaxia and Ithan departed for Lunathion with lightning crystals, hoping to revive Sigrid afterward. Ithan felt that his sacrifice was necessary, but the pain of failing Sigrid still weighed heavily on his heart. The weight of his decisions haunted him as he left behind the chance to right his wrongs.

Hunt, understanding Baxian’s pain, asked him to be his second-in-command to protect Avallen if anything happened to him. Baxian accepted, feeling that he could finally redeem himself for his past. His story of redemption and the love Danika had shown him gave him the strength to turn away from evil. She ruled out the presence of the parasite in him and confirmed that nothing living remained inside his body. Ithan couldn’t help but feel compassion for the creature, who, despite his arrogance, hid a deep fear about his existence as a reaper. Hypaxia promised to compare what she had detected in the reaper with Ithan’s blood to find a solution. Her friends reassured her that they were with her until the end. Fury insisted on staying to protect Avallen, while Bryce prepared to leave. He could now summon ice and snow, an elemental power that no wolf should possess. Hypaxia, surprised by the result, confirmed that the parasite had been eliminated and that the magic, which had always been suppressed, was now flowing freely within him. Sabine tried to justify her actions, claiming that everything she had done was for the wolves, but Ithan, filled with rage and pain, refuted her before ending her life in a brutal and definitive act. Perry and Amelie, witnesses to the confrontation, recognized Ithan’s strength and leadership and knelt before him, pledging their loyalty. Her death redefines her character, proving that even those living behind masks can die free.

How does the Mask impact the battle with the Middengard worm?

The Mask, part of the Dread Trove, plays a pivotal role when Nesta uses it to summon a skeletal warrior that restrains the worm.
